Once a fair and just ruler, Basilus now ranks among the heroes for his expansion of trade and withstanding of countless battles. He left Calopius behind to build a colony on Barbarian soil, and withstood three decades of siege before his wife betrayed the city and the enemies poured in. Said to be the greatest statesman seen in archaic times, Basilus was forced to retreat and abandon his city with what civilians he could save. Ultimately, he abandoned his dream of building a new city on foreign soil, but many a trader and soldier dreams of succeeding where he failed. Lauded above all others as the ideal king everywhere save Pittacae, who look down on him for retreating rather than embracing a death on the battlefield. However, after a lifetime of war and betrayal, Basilus penned a text called Government and Virtue, which remains a cornerstone of legal theory.
