Perhaps the mightiest mortal hunter ever born, Calydonia is a legend among adventurers, and most adventuring parties today follow in her example. While accomplished enough in life by virtue of her feats of strength, Calydonia was ill content to allow her shortcomings to stop her. So she gathered others, forming a group of five heroes. Though she was certainly the greatest among them, she did not stand over the rest as a tyrant. Instead, she brokered cooperation and friendship among her peers, who told tales of their exploits over the campfire. Her greatest accomplishment was also the event that killed her adventuring party, though she triumphed in the end. A beast was born from the Dark Forest of Chaos, a terrible boar the size of a house, with hide thicker than leather and a bloodlust unparalleled. Only Calydonia’s group could stand against the creature as it rampaged toward the temples of Periandropolis, and carved a swath through Cleobonomos still known as Boar’s Corridor to this day. The archer in her group took careful aim and blinded the beast, enraging it to charge him. The wizard drew close to scorch the protective fur from its hide, exposing its weaknesses, but she fell to the tusks and hooves as well. The elven cleric channeled his magic to augment the spear Calydonia carried, but his incantations drew the beast to him. But the beast was too close to impale, as the creature would need to charge from a distance for the spear to penetrate its breast, to the last companion drew the creature away, dying to provide enough room for Calydonia to set her spear and call the creature’s wrath. The beast impaled itself, and Calydonia alone lived to embrace her place as heroine and savior.
