After finding the Tablet of Death amid the roots of an ancient pomegranate tree, Chilon understood the nature of the soul and what fates could twist it from rest. Unwilling to allow the festering shades to be warped by Gaia or other Primordials into the undead, Chilon set to mastering the means to combat the negative energy plague. It is said Chilon was the first mortal to channel positive energy to burn away the infestation of undeath rather than heal the living, and his followers learned this art well. However, he was ill contented to sit back as reactionary. He built his Necropolis and meditated on the bees of his home island. Finally, the elf understood the nature of the undead, and spread the means to fight them rapidly. Now, most every cleric in Calopius can channel a fragment of that power to destroy them, and spells to detect and repel them are known. Even dabbling in manipulating negative energy, Chilon mastered the art of wresting control of the creatures and destroying them from within.
To this day, Chilon’s priests meditate on the bees, raising apiaries as religious act among the fruit trees. The dead have rested for centuries, with only rare instances of skeletons or zombies rising somewhere, usually battlefields with untended corpses. These watchers of the dead wear white and gold, contemplating the bones within their body as the offer repose to the bones of their own. It is said that the potently faithful of Chilon find new purpose after their death, become not a shade but a soul guide, or Psychopomp. Abandoning the lives they knew, they take on new forms and at the behest of their god, they find loose shades to return to Thantadeus.
