A gnomish patriarch from Cleobonomos, Taitalan was sought out by the king of a far away island nation to design a great maze to house the monsters he collected beneath his palace. Never one to shy from a challenge of design, Taitalan spent years crafting an underground maze that spanned the whole of the island, twisting for untold miles into the earth. For his trouble, both he and his son Icaranas were sealed within, so none would know how to escape the Labyrinth. However, Taitalan had anticipated this trickery, and made his way to a secret workshop hidden in the maze, where he fashioned for himself and his son mechanical wings to fly over the seas and return home. The wicked king had discovered the workshop before this, and taken the alchemical glues, so the father and son affixed the wings with wax. As they flew, Icaranas boasted he could challenge Pallas himself to a race, and flew toward the sun to prove his valor. The wax melted, sending the boy to his doom, and the father returned alone. It wasn’t until Thenius approached him on his death bed that Taitalan ever spoke of the Labyrinth again.
