The Muses are a mysterious collection of goddess, unconcerned with the divine world. They pervade mortal action, inspiring the arts and sciences. Their origin is a theological mystery, though it is accepted they are the children of a now dead god, born simultaneously, perhaps at the very moment Zagrius fell upon mortals and imparted to them minds of their own. Some have speculated they are the children of the nameless Fire Thief, the titan who stole Gaia’s creative flame and gave it to mortals in the form of seven tablets hidden for them to uncover after his death. However, the mysterious Muses are fickle in their whisperings, and any who hope to weave legends or truth make to them offerings and supplications. Periandropolis is the home of the only dedicated temple of all nine, known as the Grand Museum, which collects and displays great works of art and literature. Considered the greatest centralized source of knowledge in Calopius, the Grand Museum is staffed by loremaster clerics who study the accomplishments of mortals in hopes of better understanding the wills of their Nine Ladies.
