Vanguard of the gods and their standard bearer in the Cosmomachy, Vikae is a fearless combatant. Taking the form of a shieldmaiden with fair skin and a great spear bearing the flags of all other gods, Vikae flies out before her brethren on swan’s wings, her golden armor glinting against the enemy. She fears no death, and has always triumphed. As the standard-bearer of the gods, she is entrusted by all others as a proven vessel of their power and will. Despite this honored position, Vikae does not seek to rise above her station, instead turning her powers to inspiring mortal armies. When hoplites march under a banner, a small icon of Vikae tops the flagpole, and hymns to her name are sung in rhythm with the march. A shining beacon of duty and sacrifice, Vikae is asked to watch over those who have died in service to their city. Each of the seven metropolises has a shrine of Vikae, whose collections are distributed to the widows and children of soldiers killed in honorable battle. Many clerics, warpriests, and paladins pledge themselves to Vikae, ready to march with armies against worthy foes and taste death. Since the completion of the Cosmomachy, Vikae has had no use of her mighty weapon, known as The Spear of Destiny. Instead, she has hidden it for worthy leaders to find in an hour of need before she reclaims it for another.
Clerics, paladins, and warpriests of Vikae adorn themselves in breastplates or full-plate, though they seek to never slow themselves lest another reach the front lines before them. To fight alongside the warriors wearing the Angel of Triumph’s yellow and violet robes and banners is to know your force will not waver so long as they stand, and that Vikae’s gaze will watch the souls who perish. Her own class of celestial servants, called Inevitables, gather the souls of worthy warriors and guide them directly to the afterlife, where they are entrusted to serve as guardians of the shades below.
